Smallholders Foundation established in Jan. 2003 is a national non-governmental organization which promotes sustainable agricultural development, environmental conservation and market access beneficial to rural poor small farmers, through educational radio programs and in-field practical demonstrations. We are incorporated by The Corporate Affairs Commission of Nigeria.
The Smallholders Foundation was founded to complement the efforts of the government in tackling extreme poverty and hunger facing smallholder farmers. Our goal is to remove the constraints that have caused small scale agricultural growth in Nigeria to lag behind other nations. We work to reverse smallholder’s poor access to extension services, poor access to microcredit, poor access to land, low produce prices, the relatively poor access to markets, poor soil condition, the unavailability of water for agriculture, low livestock management by smallholders and inability of smallholders to take charge in managing abundant natural resources appropriately.
We design and broadcast educational radio programs together with field practical agricultural, environmental and market access demonstrations which enable smallholders living in rural communities choose what commodities to produce, what technologies to utilize for such production, for whom to produce, when to produce and at what price to sell such products.
To enable small farmers overcome poverty !!!
